Get an NCAA ID before a coach asks.

When a college coach is serious about a player, one of the first things they do is pull the NCAA eligibility file. If you have not registered, there is nothing to pull.

Where to register.

Go to eligibilitycenter.org. Create an account. Register as a college-bound student-athlete. There is a registration fee — check the current amount on the site directly. Fee waivers are available for students who qualify; ask your school counselor.

Profile vs certification.

Creating a profile is different from being certified. Your profile is where academic records and transcript requests are submitted. Certification happens when the NCAA evaluates your eligibility — that review occurs after you graduate and enroll at a college. You do not need to be certified in high school, but you need to be registered and have a profile active so coaches can see your academic standing.

When to do this.

Sophomore year at the latest. The earlier you register, the earlier coaches can request your transcript. If you are already a junior or senior without an ID, do it today.
